Description

The State of South Dakota is seeking a contractor to perform hazardous fuels reduction treatment on approximately 68.4 acres of property near Hermosa, SD. The goal of the project is to mitigate the threat of wildfire through thinning. The contractor will be required to devote individual attention to each landowner and determine areas of special concern. The project will involve the removal of current and prior insect-infested trees, damaged and dead hardwood trees, and the treatment of slash. The contractor will be granted salvage rights to offset project costs. The project must adhere to the State of South Dakota's Best Management Practices to minimize environmental impact. • The project will involve the thinning of ponderosa pine, spruce, cedar, and juniper trees to achieve an average spacing of 25 feet between trees. • The contractor will be required to remove all material to be used for biomass utilization at no cost to the landowner or the State of South Dakota. • The contractor will be required to specify the method of thinning slash disposal in their proposal. • The project will be evaluated based on cost, expertise of personnel, resources available to perform the work, experience and proven history, availability to the project, familiarity with the project, proposed method of performance and project management techniques, proposed project timeline, and proposed biomass utilization.
