Y--Pre-Proposal Site Visit

The National Park Service is seeking a contractor to stabilize the Elbee Bend of the Knife River in the Knife River Indian Village National Historic Site. The project involves installing self-healing riverbank protection and strategic planting of vegetation to prevent erosion and protect archeological resources. The contractor will be required to compact fill along the protection area and up to the full height of the riverbank, and plant vegetation or bioengineering on the stabilization as appropriate. The project is expected to take 356 calendar days to complete and will require the contractor to work in a sensitive environmental area with limited staging on site. Some key aspects of the project include: • The project is located in an urban area with limited staging on site • The construction site is 25-50 miles from the nearest suppliers and lodging facilities • The Park will remain open during construction, and contract activities must be structured to minimize visitor impact • The site requires protective measures to ensure the surrounding area remains undisturbed • The structure is a natural/cultural resource • The project will stabilize approximately 1200 linear feet of bank along the Knife River • The project will increase recreational opportunities for visitors and connect to existing trails
