The IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program aims to develop biomedical research capacity in states that have historically received low levels of NIH funding. The program will support statewide networks made up of one or more research-intensive institutions and multiple primarily undergraduate institutions. These networks will build biomedical research capacity by supporting faculty research and research mentoring, student participation in research, and enhancement of institutional research infrastructure. The goal is to develop pathways for undergraduate students in these states to move into biomedical research careers.
Some key points to consider:
• Eligible institutions are located in specific states, including Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
• Eligible network partner institutions may be primarily undergraduate institutions or other higher education and biomedical research institutions.
• The program promotes collaboration among institutions in IDeA states, creates economies of scale, and develops research support capabilities at the primarily undergraduate institutions.
• The estimated application response date is May 18, 2027, and the estimated award date is May 01, 2028.
