Description

The NIH Common Fund Human Virome Program seeks up to 13 small pilot projects (R03 grants) to advance tools, assays, and cohort expansion for studying the healthy human virome. Projects may leverage existing human specimens, incorporate animal samples, develop new analytical methods, or explore virome‑host interactions. Applications must not overlap with current HVP efforts, and clinical trials are prohibited. Each award ranges from $50,000 to $100,000 and is intended to be completed within a two‑year period. Collaboration across the HVP consortium is encouraged, and applicants from any U.S. nonprofit, educational, government, or for‑profit entity (excluding foreign organizations) may apply.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $100,000

The NOFO lists an award ceiling of $100,000 and a floor of $50,000 per award, with an estimated total funding pool of $2,000,000 for 13 awards. Therefore, a successful applicant can expect a grant between $50k and $100k, typically funded over a two‑year project period. The exact amount will depend on the scope of the pilot and budget justification.
