Description

The Los Alamos National Laboratory is offering a technology licensing opportunity for the ScreenFlow Liquid-Liquid Microcontactor. This technology is a membrane-free, microscale liquid-liquid contactor that can be used for various applications such as critical materials, pharmaceutical manufacturing, petroleum and petrochemical processing, analytical instrumentation, food and beverage processing, and water treatment and desalination. The technology has several advantages, including direct liquid-to-liquid contact, same-direction and opposite-direction flow, scalability, and stable operation. Some key features of this technology include: • Direct liquid-to-liquid contact with no separating membrane • Supports both same-direction and opposite-direction flow within the same hardware footprint • Scales by stacking additional screen layers, raising throughput from microliters per minute toward milliliters per minute and beyond without changing the basic design • Built from off-the-shelf materials using standard machine-shop methods rather than cleanroom photolithography • Printed-gasket version cuts part count roughly in half, simplifying assembly and eliminating edge leak paths • Demonstrated stable operation across days of continuous biphasic flow, suitable for sustained processing rather than one-shot experiments
