Fort Peck Excitation System Upgrade

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is seeking information from interested and qualified contractors regarding the potential modernization of excitation systems at Fort Peck Dam, a remote hydroelectric facility located on the Missouri River near Glasgow, Montana. The facility consists of two powerhouses with a total of five generating units. Existing excitation systems present reliability and supportability concerns due to aging equipment, partial legacy upgrades, and obsolescence of key control components. The anticipated scope may include modern digital excitation systems, integration with existing generator and plant systems, excitation modeling and validation testing, and factory and site acceptance testing. • The facility has two powerhouses with five generating units. • The existing excitation systems have reliability and supportability concerns. • The Government is evaluating a targeted excitation system modernization approach for Powerhouse 1 and a full excitation system replacement for Powerhouse 2. • The work would be performed at a remote location with limited local labor availability and would require coordination across multiple generating units and outage windows.
