Description

DARPA’s Resilient Disruption Opportunity seeks a prime contractor (and approved subcontractors) to design, build, and demonstrate a portable “Material Accelerator” that can age concrete > 1 000× faster than natural exposure while preserving the same degradation mechanisms, and to develop a physics‑informed scalability model that translates accelerated coupon data to long‑term performance of full‑scale structures. The effort is split into a Phase 1 base effort (up to $1 M, 12 months) and an optional Phase 2 expansion (up to $1 M, additional 12 months), with a total award ceiling of $2 M. The work includes benchtop accelerator design, transportable prototype development, extensive testing of multiple concrete formulations under simulated environmental regimes, and delivery of validated software models and technical data packages. Payments are tied to 13 defined milestones spanning design reviews, testing, model validation, and final demonstrations. • Design and fabricate a benchtop accelerator (Phase 1) achieving > 100× acceleration; later, a transportable accelerator (Phase 2) achieving > 1 000× acceleration. • Develop a multi‑scale physics‑informed scalability model (v1.0 in Phase 1, v2.0 in Phase 2) with predictive accuracy of ± 25 % (Phase 1) and ± 10 % (Phase 2). • Contribute historic concrete‑degradation data to a federated database and validate accelerated test results against this baseline. • Deliver comprehensive technical reports, software executables, source code, and hardware Technical Data Packages at each milestone, with in‑person PI meetings at months 6, 12, and 24.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $2,000,000

The solicitation caps the total award at $2 000 000 (up to $1 M for Phase 1 and up to $1 M for Phase 2). A contractor that secures only Phase 1 would receive roughly $1 M, while a full‑award winner completing both phases could earn the full $2 M. Thus the expected budget range is $1 M‑$2 M, contingent on successful delivery of all milestones.
