Community Relations Coordinator

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is seeking a Community Relations Coordinator to maintain and nurture relationships with internal and external communities. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, as well as the ability to foster positive relationships with individuals and organizations. The Community Relations Coordinator will support key departments in developing effective strategies to address internal audiences and the public in sharing the vision of the CETEK and RETEK projects. Some key responsibilities include developing culturally responsive strategies, building and maintaining relationships with key groups, creating GTB's first-ever Tribal Youth Advisory Council, and managing all CETEK communications. • Develop culturally responsive strategies for building and maintaining programs and activities that will have a positive impact on local tribal and non-tribal communities. • Build and maintain relationships with key groups and members of the community, partnering organizations, and other collaborating entities engaged with GTB on the CETEK and RETEK projects. • Create GTB's first-ever Tribal Youth Advisory Council to give citizens ages 15-26 opportunities to work alongside elders with meaningful activities that will facilitate an intergenerational exchange of wisdom. • Manage all CETEK communications with the Tribal community and ensure that actionable science translates into climate literacy, increased citizen involvement, and increased resiliency. • Serve as a mentor to junior staff members and assist with their professional development and provide pathways to opportunities for future growth of the Community Engagement office. • Organize community outreach programs and coordinate special events that promote culturally based designs, plans, and specifications for restoration projects aimed at building tribal climate resiliency.
