Description

NASA’s Technology Transfer Program is offering license rights to its “Anonymous Feature Processing (AFP)” algorithm—a vision‑based feature‑recognition method that operates without explicit correspondence between sensor data and map catalogs. The technology can be used with simple cameras or LIDAR and flight computers to improve robustness, reduce computational load, and lower development costs for autonomous navigation in space or terrestrial environments. NASA will issue exclusive or non‑exclusive licenses, does not provide funding, and requires interested parties to submit a license application via NASA’s ATLAS portal. No subsequent procurement is expected beyond the licensing agreement. • License rights (exclusive or non‑exclusive) to AFP algorithm for autonomous navigation. • Applicable to autonomous vehicles, manufacturing, research imaging, and space exploration platforms. • No funding from NASA; the licensee bears all development and integration costs. • Application through ATLAS at https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/MSC-TOPS-129.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

While the notice provides no explicit monetary amount, technology‑transfer licenses typically generate revenue based on royalty rates, upfront fees, and potential milestone payments. For a novel navigation algorithm applicable to both aerospace and autonomous‑vehicle markets, a modest upfront license fee might range from $50,000 to $200,000, with additional royalties tied to sales. Hence, an estimated total budget per license could fall between $50 K and $200 K.
