Breastfeeding Support Services

The County of Sacramento’s First 5 Sacramento Commission is seeking an experienced organization to deliver comprehensive breastfeeding support services to new parents in Sacramento County. The program aims to increase initiation and continuation of exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months (preferably up to one year) and to reduce racial disparities in breastfeeding rates. Contractors must have a minimum of five years’ local experience and employ International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) to provide education, one‑on‑one consultations, and ongoing support. Up to $600,000 is available for a three‑year term (July 1 2027 – June 30 2030). • Target population: new parents, especially underserved and racial‑minority families in Sacramento County • Core services: breastfeeding education, individualized IBCLC consultations, ongoing lactation support, culturally‑responsive outreach • Required experience: ≥5 years providing breastfeeding support in the county, IBCLC staff or contractors • Funding: up to $600 K total, awarded via an RFP after this Determination of Interest (DOI) screening • Timeline: DOI released Oct 23 2026, questions due Nov 10 2026, response due Nov 16 2026, screening results Dec 2 2026, RFP to follow.
