Description
The University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking a design team for the Large Lakes Observatory (LLO) project, which includes the construction of a new research lab building on the UMD campus and a waterfront operations facility to support field research vessels. The project aims to provide a permanent home for LLO's field research vessels and support research activities in a portside building. The selected design team will be responsible for all services and deliverables necessary to complete the predesign, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration phases. The project will be delivered via a Construction Manager at Risk (CM@R) method. Key considerations include applying the Minnesota Sustainable Building Guidelines (B3) and the Sustainable Building 2030 program, as well as meeting the 10% Targeted Group/Economically Disadvantaged/Veteran-Owned subcontracting goal.
Some key points about the job and its scope of work include:
• The construction of a new ~60,000 GSF research lab facility on the UMD core campus
• The creation of a ~12,000 GSF waterfront operations facility to support the R/V Blue Heron
• The inclusion of high-bay spaces, offices, and outreach programs in the waterfront facility
• The need for contemporary analytical laboratory space on campus for integration with other College faculty and graduate students
• The requirement for facilities sized to support a modest growth in researcher population, with capacity for significant growth in the number of LLO-affiliated graduate students
