Description

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is soliciting bids from area processors to purchase fish caught during the sablefish pot survey, provide ice for three survey vessels, and provide bait for three survey vessels. The survey is expected to take 7 days but could last longer depending on weather conditions or whale encounters. The maximum length of the survey is not expected to exceed 14 days. The successful bidder must provide 4–6 tons of high-quality ice for each vessel per trip and must provide a total of 2,000 pounds of frozen Illex squid of commercial designation for bait per vessel. • The total expected landed catch for this survey is estimated to be approximately 110,000–130,000 round pounds of sablefish, plus an additional 2,000–3,000 pounds of dressed sablefish and 1,000–2,000 round pounds of rockfish bycatch. • Bidders must provide tender service in Chatham Strait. • Processors submitting a bid must have a facility and a tender capable of handling up to 70,000 pounds of round sablefish and must be able to provide high-quality ice and frozen bait for each vessel after the first offload. • The successful bidder will be responsible for making arrangements to provide ice and bait to survey vessels at the vessel’s original port of departure prior to the survey and at port upon the first delivery (or at sea to the tender, if applicable).

Budget estimate

$1,100,000 – $1,300,000

The budget for this opportunity can be estimated based on the expected landed catch and the price bid by the company. The total expected landed catch is approximately 110,000–130,000 round pounds of sablefish, plus an additional 2,000–3,000 pounds of dressed sablefish and 1,000–2,000 round pounds of rockfish bycatch. Assuming an average price of $10 per pound for sablefish, the total budget would be approximately $1,100,000 to $1,300,000. However, this is a rough estimate and the actual budget may vary depending on the price bid by the company and other factors. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the price bid by the company, the actual landed catch, and the quality of the fish.
