95--Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism Study RFI

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking information from industry, academia, and other stakeholders to support a study on the effects of the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on U.S. exporters. The study aims to determine the average emissions intensity of certain goods produced in the United States compared to those from other countries. NETL is interested in gathering data on emissions, production processes, and calculation methodologies from various sectors, including iron and steel, aluminum, cement, fertilizers, and hydrogen. • The RFI is seeking information from producers, manufacturers, trade organizations, Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) practitioners, academic and research institutions, software companies, and other interested parties. • Respondents are asked to provide data on production processes, emissions, and calculation methodologies, as well as comments on the EU's CBAM calculation methodology and suggestions for alternatives or adjustments. • The information gathered will be used to support U.S. industry and inform the development of a national average product emissions intensity for the sectors listed. • Responses are due by June 19, 2026, and should be submitted via email to [email protected].
