Description

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is initiating engineering and environmental studies for a new non‑motorized pedestrian pathway connecting Naknek and King Salmon. The project includes adding recessed pavement markers, signage, striping, drainage improvements, topsoil seeding, and constructing continuous pedestrian paths at two key locations near the airport and local roads. Public input is solicited through a meeting on September 9, 2026, and written comments are accepted until September 20, 2026. Construction is anticipated to start in April 2028, subject to NEPA categorical exclusion and compliance with numerous federal and state environmental statutes. • Scope: Design, environmental review, and construction of pedestrian pathways, signage, drainage, and landscaping. • Location: Naknek and King Salmon, Alaska (Southcoast Region). • Key Milestones: Public meeting 9/9/2026, comment deadline 9/20/2026, construction start 4/2028. • Regulatory: NEPA categorical exclusion, compliance with ADA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Air/Water Acts, etc. • Contact: Connor Brown, Environmental Impact Analyst ([email protected]).

Budget estimate

$2,000,000 – $5,000,000

No explicit contract value is provided. Based on typical costs for rural pedestrian pathways in Alaska—including grading, paving, signage, drainage, and environmental mitigation—estimated construction budgets range from $2 million to $5 million. The lower end assumes a minimal alignment with basic materials; the higher end accounts for extensive drainage, topsoil seeding, and compliance with multiple environmental statutes.
