RFI: Feedback on Draft MIL-DTL for Militarized USB-C (USB-CM) Connections

The US Department of War is seeking feedback on a draft Military Detail document (MIL-DTL) for a new design of militarized USB-C connections, also known as USB-CM. The USB-CM is an environmentally hardened connection built to survive military environments and supports power and data requirements. The draft MIL-DTL document is available for review, and feedback is being solicited on various aspects, including the USB-CM connector design, manufacturability, ability to integrate into vendor products, cost considerations, and durability. The connectors are intended to provide a reliable and ruggedized standard connector for users across the Department of War. Key aspects of the job include: • Design and development of environmentally resistant electrical cables and connectors based on the USB Type-C specification • Compliance with the Universal Serial Bus Type-C Cable and Connector Specification, Release 2.4 • Meeting performance requirements, including temperature shock, vibration, and humidity • Use of corrosion-resistant materials and protection against galvanic corrosion • Compatibility with breakaway and locking receptacles • Ability to withstand normal handling during installation and maintenance The opportunity is open for public feedback, and comments can be submitted to USB-CMilitary.army.mil in MS Word or PDF format.
