Design Engineering for the South Barton Pedestrian Bridge

The City of Ann Arbor is seeking a qualified engineering firm to design a new 304‑ft pedestrian bridge over the Huron River at South Barton, including an observation platform and accessibility improvements to the adjacent parking lot. The scope covers all phases of design – from topographic and geotechnical surveys through structural analysis, construction‑ready drawings, permitting support, and coordination with community stakeholders. The contract is for professional‑services only; construction will be funded separately. • Design a two‑span continuous steel‑beam bridge with poured‑in‑place concrete deck (14‑ft clear width) and a mid‑span observation platform. • Provide full set of construction documents, cost estimates, and permit applications (EGLE, wetlands, floodplain, etc.). • Conduct surveys, scour analysis, geotechnical investigations, and coordination with utilities, public‑art commissions, and the Park Advisory Commission. • Deliverables include 15 %, 50 %, 75 % and 100 % design milestones, bi‑monthly progress meetings, and support for bid‑package preparation.
