Description

Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking qualified laboratories and analytical service providers to perform biomarker analyses on dried blood spot (DBS) and dried urine samples collected from study participants at home for an NIH‑funded research project. The contract will be awarded through an online RFQ process (ISUBid) with a submission deadline of 11 June 2026. Vendors may be invited to give a virtual or in‑person demonstration of their capabilities. The award will be based on compliance with specifications, technical capability, and cost; the university is not obligated to select the lowest price. • Scope: quantitative analysis of biomarkers in DBS and dried urine specimens. • Required capabilities: validated analytical methods, high‑throughput processing, secure data reporting. • Deliverables: assay results, data files, and a final report per study protocol. • Timeline: proposals due 11 June 2026; questions due 3 Nov 2026; possible demonstration on 11 Nov 2026. • Funding: NIH grant (federal funds) – must comply with federal procurement rules. • Registration: vendors must be registered in ISU’s supplier system prior to award.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The contract involves processing a large number of DBS and dried urine samples for a multi‑year NIH study. Similar university‑sponsored biomarker testing contracts range from a few hundred thousand to over a million dollars, depending on sample volume and assay complexity. Assuming a moderate sample set (≈5,000–10,000 specimens) and standard multiplex panels, a reasonable ball‑park is $200,000 – $500,000 in total fees, covering assay execution, data management, and reporting. Factors influencing the final amount include the number of biomarkers, required turnaround time, and any additional validation work.
