Description

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is offering a technology licensing opportunity for a Continuous Electric-Field Assisted Sintering (CEFAS) system. This system is an improvement over traditional Electric-Field Assisted Sintering (EFAS) techniques, which have limitations in terms of production volume and part geometries. The CEFAS system introduces a continuous sintering process, allowing for the production of theoretically infinite sample lengths and increased rates of part production. The benefits of this system include a 200-fold reduction in processing time, up to 23-fold decrease in energy consumption, and the elimination of limitations on part length. The technology is at a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4-5, with some validation work done in the laboratory. • Unprecedented 200-fold reduction in processing time compared to traditional EFAS. • Up to 23-fold decrease in energy consumption. • Eliminates limitations on part length, facilitating new part geometries. • Enables seamless industrial scale-up by allowing for continuous processing. • Material processing companies requiring sintering solutions can benefit from this technology. • Industries where scale-up and time efficiency are critical can also benefit. • Manufacturing processes requiring specialized part geometries can take advantage of this system.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a technology licensing agreement and the terms of the license, including the royalty rate and payment structure, are not specified. However, considering the potential benefits of the CEFAS system, including the reduction in processing time and energy consumption, and the potential for increased production volumes, the budget could be substantial. A rough estimate could be in the range of $100,000 to $1,000,000, depending on the terms of the license and the success of the commercialization effort. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the level of competition for the license, the negotiating power of the parties involved, and the potential for future developments and improvements to the technology.
