Description

The City of Cedar Rapids is soliciting sealed electronic bids for the design‑build repair of erosion‑damaged sections of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. The work includes restoring the trail’s original slope, installing geotextile fabric, filter‑sock rock‑bag units, rock‑bag stone fill, and topsoil, as well as temporary erosion‑control measures, signage, and trail closures. Contractors must coordinate with multiple utilities, comply with Iowa Statewide Urban Design and Specifications (SUDAS), obtain all permits, provide a SWPPP, and maintain erosion controls throughout construction. The contract is funded with CIP funds (307274) and requires a maintenance bond for water‑system components. • Restore eroded trail embankments to original geometry (1‑5% slope) • Install geotextile, filter‑sock rock‑bag units, and rock‑bag stone fill • Provide temporary erosion‑ and sediment‑control (silt fences, SWPPP) • Replace/repair temporary trail surfaces, signage, and barriers • Coordinate utility relocations, water‑main testing, and inspections • Follow strict permitting, notice‑to‑dig, and traffic‑control procedures

Budget estimate

$150,000 – $300,000

The solicitation does not disclose a budget. Based on typical municipal trail erosion‑repair projects of comparable size (≈ 0.5‑1 mile of trail) and the detailed scope (rock‑bag fill, geotextile, topsoil, utility coordination, permits, and erosion‑control), a reasonable estimate ranges from $150,000 to $300,000. Larger site conditions, utility work, or additional environmental mitigation could push the upper bound higher, while a minimal‑impact site could be nearer the lower end.
