Description

NASA’s Technology Transfer Program is offering licensing rights—exclusive or non‑exclusive—to commercialize a novel reversible, androgynous mechanical fastener developed at the Ames Research Center. The fastener features high mis‑alignment tolerance, lightweight construction, and is designed for robotic assembly of large, reconfigurable structures such as lunar habitats or terrestrial lattice systems. Interested firms must submit a license application through NASA’s ATLAS portal. No funding is provided by NASA; license fees will be negotiated with the successful licensee. • High‑strength, reversible mechanical connection suitable for robotic assembly. • Applicable to aerospace, defense, and other high‑performance structural systems. • Licensing may be exclusive or non‑exclusive, with fields‑of‑use restrictions possible. • Application deadline: 10 Aug 2027 (Central Time).

Budget estimate

$10,000 – $200,000

NASA states that no funding is provided with the license; revenue would come from negotiated license fees, royalties, or milestone payments. Given the specialized nature of the technology and typical licensing arrangements for NASA‑derived hardware, a modest license could be in the low‑five‑figure range, while a broader, exclusive field‑of‑use agreement could reach mid‑six‑figure amounts. Estimated range: $10 K – $200 K.
