Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) are issuing an Expression of Interest (EOI) to identify vendors capable of supplying long‑duration energy storage (LDES) battery systems for benchmark testing at their facilities. The solicitation seeks two module‑scale systems (100‑150 kWh, 10‑15 kW, ≤7 ft³ each) and one full‑scale system (1,000‑1,500 kWh, 100‑150 kW, container‑sized). Acceptable technologies must be non‑lithium electrochemical batteries with ≥10 hour discharge capability, operate from 0 °C to 50 °C with limited performance loss, have a minimum 15‑year field lifetime, and provide both AC and DC interfaces with robust safety certifications (NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, etc.). Deliverables include detailed technical data, safety assessments, FAT/SAT reports, operation & maintenance manuals, and a project schedule targeting ~3 months for module delivery and ~6 months for full‑scale delivery. Submissions are due 24 Sept 2026; selected vendors may be invited to a later RFP.
• Module‑scale: 100‑150 kWh, 10‑15 kW, ≤7 ft × 7 ft × 7 ft, two units.
• Full‑scale: 1,000‑1,500 kWh, 100‑150 kW, container‑sized, one unit.
• Non‑lithium electrochemical chemistry only (Li‑ion, flow, lead‑acid excluded).
• Must meet NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, NEC/IEEE standards; provide hazard assessments.
• AC: 3‑phase, 60 Hz, 480 V; DC: 800‑1,500 V isolated export; support Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, IEC 61850.
• Lifetime ≥15 years; performance ≥95 % availability; degradation model required.
• Documentation: 70 %, 90 %, final design packages; FAT & SAT reports; O&M manuals; remote monitoring.
• Schedule: design → delivery → commissioning within ~6 months for full system; SAT within 1 month of install.
• Submission: single PDF/Word with technology description, dimensions, interfaces, safety docs, performance data, schedule, and indicative pricing.
