Description

Mississippi State University’s Mobile Aquifer Field Education Service (MAFES) seeks a design‑build‑install vendor to create a fully functional, interactive exhibit housed inside a 24‑ft cargo‑car trailer. The exhibit must educate K‑12 audiences about the Mississippi Alluvial Aquifer, groundwater‑surface‑water interaction, and water‑conservation practices, and be ready for deployment by Fall 2026. The vendor will be responsible for engineering design, lightweight yet durable fabrication, NEC‑compliant electrical/mechanical integration (generator‑powered), interior exhibit components (3‑D aquifer model, tactile sediment layers, moisture‑sensor plant‑root display, 32‑inch touchscreen), exterior branding, delivery, on‑site testing, documentation, and training of university staff. Evaluation heavily favors technical design quality and cost competitiveness. • Design and engineering of all exhibit modules to fit within a 24‑ft EL8524TA3 trailer. • Fabrication using lightweight, moisture‑resistant, impact‑tolerant materials; installation of LED lighting, pumps, sensors, and a 32‑inch touchscreen. • Delivery, on‑site testing, full documentation, and one training session for university personnel. • Fixed‑price, firm‑fixed‑price contract; proposal validity 180 days; award expected late March 2026.

Budget estimate

$300,000 – $800,000

Similar custom mobile museum projects for universities typically range from $300 k to $800 k depending on the complexity of interactive components, materials, and integration of lighting, plumbing, and touchscreen technology. Given the requirement for multiple exhibit stations, generator‑powered electrical work, and a full exterior branding wrap, a mid‑range estimate of $500 k is realistic, with the low end representing a basic build and the high end covering premium materials and advanced interactive features.
