Description

The County of Middlesex is seeking a qualified consulting firm to manage and coordinate the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accreditation process for its Arts Institute Division of History and Historic Preservation. The consultant will support core document revisions, pre‑planning for the AAM self‑study, provide exhibit‑model guidance, and deliver professional development sessions over a 24‑month period. The contract is a firm‑fixed‑price, flat‑fee arrangement with separate travel reimbursement and will commence shortly after award. • Scope includes reviewing and updating core documents (mission, collections policy, ethics, emergency response, strategic plan) based on AAM feedback. • Pre‑planning and assistance with the nine‑section AAM self‑study, including data gathering, on‑site peer reviews, and staff workshops. • Development of an AAM‑compliant exhibit checklist and guidance for upcoming county museum exhibits. • Delivery of virtual professional‑development sessions for local historic partners (20 min–1 hr each). • Minimum eight on‑site visits (≤3 days each) and travel expense reimbursement per federal per‑diem rates. • Required qualifications: ≥5 years museum consulting experience and proven AAM accreditation success. • Contract period: 24 months, starting November 17 2026, with a total flat‑fee plus travel. • Award expected November 16 2026; proposals due September 18 2026.

Budget estimate

$150,000 – $300,000

The solicitation does not disclose a contract value. Based on a 24‑month flat‑fee consulting engagement for a specialized museum accreditation project, comparable contracts in the NJ public sector range from $150k to $300k, plus travel reimbursements. The lower bound assumes a modest consulting team and limited travel; the upper bound reflects a senior‑level team, extensive on‑site work, and higher hourly rates.
