Filtering Instrument for DNA Observation (FIDO) for NOAA Research eDNA Sampling

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking information from potential vendors for the development and procurement of a Filtering Instrument for DNA Observation (FIDO) system for eDNA sampling. The system should be capable of collecting and preserving a minimum of 100 eDNA samples, with automated positioning mechanisms and software controls integrated into the existing FIDO program interface. The contractor will be responsible for designing, fabricating, and delivering an automated multi-sample module, as well as providing training and support for the system. The project aims to support NOAA's eDNA goals associated with fisheries, harmful algal blooms, invasive species, and biodiversity management actions. • The system must be compatible with MBARI's FIDO system and incorporate automated flushing and/or cleaning protocols. • The system must support two-way remote communication and include a web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) for sample scheduling and instrument diagnostics. • The system must generate and report metadata in compliance with FAIR/FAIRe data principles and Darwin Core frameworks. • The contractor must provide a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual and conduct operational training for NOAA personnel.
