Description

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is issuing a cooperative‑agreement grant under the Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI) to fund State Units on Aging (SUAs) to develop or expand dementia‑specific respite services for unpaid family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Up to 15 awards will be made, each ranging from $500,000 to $4,000,000, to support a 36‑month demonstration program. Successful applicants must partner with Area Agencies on Aging and other network providers, ensure providers receive dementia‑specific training, and conduct an independent third‑party evaluation of program impact. The goal is to reduce caregiver burden and delay institutionalization by increasing high‑quality, person‑centered respite care. • Target audience: State governments (SUAs) partnering with AAAs and other aging services providers. • Funding mechanism: Cooperative Agreement (grant) – $23 M total, $500 k‑$4 M per award. • Project length: 36 months, starting July 30 2027. • Core deliverables: Establish or expand respite services, provider training, coordination with national aging network, third‑party program evaluation. • Eligibility: States/territories with an SUA; must demonstrate capacity to manage funds, oversee trained providers, and meet OAA Title III‑E standards.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $4,000,000

The total estimated funding for the opportunity is $23 million, divided among up to 15 awards. Each award can range from the minimum $500,000 to a ceiling of $4 million, depending on the scope of the state’s proposed program. Therefore, a prospective winner should anticipate a contract value somewhere within that band, with the exact amount driven by the size of the state’s aging services network, the number of caregivers served, and the breadth of training and evaluation components proposed.
