Description

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Fisheries Science Center is seeking qualified vendors to provide DNA and RNA sequencing services for a range of commercially important groundfish and crab species. The work will involve extracting genetic material, performing high‑throughput sequencing, and delivering processed genomic data to support fisheries science and management. Vendors must demonstrate capability in molecular biology, next‑generation sequencing platforms, and bioinformatic analysis. Deliverables include raw sequence reads, assembled genomes or transcriptomes, and a final report summarizing methods and findings. • Scope: DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, sequencing, data analysis, and reporting. • Target species: Multiple groundfish and crab species of commercial importance in Alaska. • Required expertise: Molecular genetics, next‑generation sequencing (NGS), bioinformatics pipelines. • Deliverables: Raw data files, assembled sequences, analytical report. • Potential for future contracts based on data utility for fisheries management.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

Based on typical federal contracts for high‑throughput sequencing of multiple marine species, project budgets often range from $100,000 for limited‑scope pilot work to $500,000 or more for comprehensive multi‑species sequencing and full bioinformatic analysis. The final amount will depend on the number of species, depth of sequencing required, and any additional data‑interpretation services requested.
