Description

The Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Services in Schools (MCOPS) Grant for FY 27 provides one‑year funding to Mississippi public school districts to add or expand certified School Resource Officer (SRO) positions and improve school safety. Grants cover only salary and fringe benefits for each SRO (minimum $10,000 per officer) and must be matched 1:1 with at least $10,000 in local cash or in‑kind contributions for equipment, safety gear, and training. Applicants must submit a district‑level application, Budget Forms A‑D, a threat‑assessment form for every school, and signed training logs for each SRO. All forms must be signed; missing signatures result in rejection. Training of 40 CEU hours must be completed by each SRO during 2026, with certificates due by January 29 2027 if not attached initially. • Minimum award per officer: $10,000 (salary + fringe) – grant funds cannot be used for any other costs. • Local match: $10,000 per district (cash or in‑kind) for equipment, safety gear, or SRO training travel. • Application deadline: March 30 2026; questions due March 17 2026; award notification April 17 2026; funds must be obligated by June 30 2027 and liquidated by July 13 2027. • Required deliverables: District‑level application, Budget Forms A‑D, Threat Assessment per school, SRO Training Log (Form 7), Officer Information Sheet (Form 8), and all signatures.

Budget estimate

$10,000 – $200,000

The grant guarantees a minimum of $10,000 per SRO from federal funds, plus a required $10,000 local match that can be spent on equipment or training. If a district hires one officer, the client (e.g., a vendor providing equipment or training) could earn roughly $10‑20 k from the match portion; larger districts hiring multiple officers could generate $50‑200 k from equipment, training, and consulting services. The range therefore spans from a low‑end single‑officer scenario (~$10 k) to a high‑end multi‑officer, multi‑school district scenario (~$200 k).
