Description

NASA’s Technology Transfer Program is seeking companies interested in licensing a patented hypersonic flight‑control system that uses magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) principles to generate lift and drag forces on aircraft or spacecraft traveling at hypersonic speeds. The technology consists of a pair of surface electrodes and an underlying electromagnet powered by energy harvested from ionized atmospheric flow. License rights may be exclusive or non‑exclusive and may include specific fields of use; NASA will not provide any funding for development. Interested parties must submit a license application through NASA’s ATLAS portal. • Electrode‑based MHD control system for hypersonic flight vehicles • No government funding; revenue comes from licensing fees/royalties • Application submitted via ATLAS (https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/LAR-TOPS-363)

Budget estimate

$0 – $200,000

NASA explicitly states “NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses,” indicating that the government will not pay the contractor. Revenue would come solely from licensing royalties, which typically range from a few thousand dollars to several hundred thousand dollars over the life of the license, depending on commercial success. A conservative estimate is $0 (if no commercial uptake) up to $200,000 (if the technology is adopted by a major aerospace firm).
