Land Use Permit Application Construction Field Camp, LAS 36239

The State of Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources (Division of Mining, Land and Water) has received a Land Use Permit (LUP) application from Great Northwest Inc. to establish a temporary contractor field camp on approximately 10 acres at the Little Gerstle River Pit (Milepost 1389 of the Alaska Highway). The camp will support the Johnson River Bridge Replacement (Phase 1, complete by 2029) and the subsequent Gerstle River Bridge Replacement (Phase 2). Proposed facilities include RV parking for up to 60 workers, mobile field offices, a water well, a DEC‑approved septic system, equipment parking, and fuel storage (≈18 k gal diesel, 5 k gal gasoline). The permit term requested is five years (2026‑2031). The public comment period closes on 23 Sep 2026, and all questions must be submitted by that date. No permanent structures are planned beyond the well and septic system, which can be removed at permit termination.
