Description

NASA’s Earth Science Division is seeking external partners to revive and complete the former GeoCarb instrument, integrate it onto a spacecraft, launch, operate the resulting Atmospheric Exploration Observatory, and share the atmospheric data with commercial benefits. The partnership will involve hardware development, space‑qualifying integration, launch coordination, in‑orbit operations, and data distribution. NASA expects partners to stay current with an online portal for updates and virtual briefings. • Complete the unfinished GeoCarb instrument hardware. • Integrate the instrument with a spacecraft, perform testing, launch, and operate the observatory in orbit. • Provide atmospheric observation data and commercial data products to the selected partner(s). • Collaborate virtually with NASA, adhering to updates posted on the AFPP website.

Budget estimate

$10,000,000 – $50,000,000

No budget figures are disclosed. Based on the scope— completing a sophisticated atmospheric instrument, integrating it onto a spacecraft, launch services, orbital operations, and data commercialization—a full‑life‑cycle partnership could reasonably span several years and require tens of millions of dollars in funding. A conservative estimate would be between $10 million and $50 million, depending on the partner’s contribution to hardware development, launch procurement, and data product generation.
