Description

The City of Ames is seeking proposals from qualified solar photovoltaic firms for the design and installation of roof-mount solar projects at two City-owned facilities: the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center and the Steven L. Schainker Plaza. The City aims to maximize electricity generation using the available space at each facility, with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and demonstrating community leadership. The selected firm will be responsible for designing, planning, scheduling, permitting, installing, interconnecting, and maintaining the solar PV systems. Key requirements include a minimum of 90% kWh guarantee for year 1, a 25-year performance guarantee, and warranty coverage for modules, inverter, racking, and workmanship. • The Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center has approximately 17,000 square feet of available roof space. • The Steven L. Schainker Plaza has approximately 2,000 square feet of available roof space. • The City seeks proposals for a turnkey monitoring system to monitor system performance and provide data for public viewing. • The City prefers a supplier certification, signed under penalty of perjury, to substantiate compliance with the Clean Electricity Investment Credit requirements. • The City will evaluate proposals based on factors such as cost effectiveness, performance history, and technical approach.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

Based on the available information, it is estimated that the budget for this project could range from $500,000 to $2,000,000. This estimate is based on the average cost of solar panel installations, which can range from $2 to $5 per watt. With the City of Ames aiming to maximize electricity generation, the total cost of the project could be substantial. However, the exact budget will depend on various factors, including the size of the solar PV systems, the cost of equipment and labor, and the incentives available for renewable energy projects.
