J059--Northampton VAMC – Fitchburg VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic-Fiber Optic Cable Installation

The Northampton Fiber Optic Cable Installation project involves installing fiber optic cable in the Philip J. Philbin Federal Office Building in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The project requires running temporary fiber to the 3rd floor, and the intent is not to meet OIT infrastructure standards. The existing conduit can be used in some areas, but new conduit may be required in other areas. The project also involves coordinating with the VA patient hallways and waiting room, and ensuring compliance with VHA, NFPA, Joint Commission, NEC, and other regulations and guidelines. The project requires a self-performance level of 51% for SDVOSB set-aside awards. Some key aspects of the project include: • Utilizing existing conduit to exit the 1st floor IT room • Running fiber optic cable through the USPS loading dock • Coordinating work in Room 107, an active office • Ensuring containment measures are in place for drilling and other work • Complying with VHA, NFPA, Joint Commission, NEC, and other regulations and guidelines • Terminating all strands of the fiber optic cable on both ends • Meeting the 2-hour fire rating requirement for new penetrations
