Consultant for Historian/Architectural Survey Services - Phase I

The City of Columbia is seeking a qualified historian and/or architectural historian to conduct a reconnaissance-level architectural survey of the Benton-Stephens neighborhood. The survey will document the existing historic character and conditions of each property within the survey area, provide a historic context for the development of the survey area, and make recommendations for future preservation activities. The consultant will be required to complete a research design, conduct fieldwork, and prepare a final survey report. The project is partially funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. • The consultant will be responsible for conducting a reconnaissance-level architectural survey of the Benton-Stephens neighborhood. • The survey will include documenting the existing historic character and conditions of each property within the survey area. • The consultant will provide a historic context for the development of the survey area and make recommendations for future preservation activities. • The consultant will complete a research design, conduct fieldwork, and prepare a final survey report. • The project is partially funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. • The consultant will be required to submit digital products, including photographs and survey forms, to the City and the State Historic Preservation Office. • The consultant will be required to participate in two public meetings to inform owners of properties within the survey area and the interested public about the goals and scope of the survey project.
