Description

The City of Milwaukee is soliciting qualified, licensed and bonded contractors to perform 60 hydrant alteration projects throughout the Milwaukee Water Works service area. Work includes acquisition of permits, excavation, traffic and erosion control, removal and replacement of existing hydrants, installation of new hydrant assemblies, back‑filling with aggregate slurry, and full site restoration to pavement, curb, gutter and walkways. All work must comply with city water service specifications, lead line replacement provisions, and applicable safety and environmental regulations. The contract includes a liquidated damages provision of $1,000 per day for delayed site restoration and requires compliance with Davis‑Bacon, Build‑America‑Buy‑America, and other federal‑state requirements. • 60 scattered hydrant alteration locations, each requiring full excavation and replacement. • Required site restoration within ten business days of substantial completion, with a $1,000 per day liquidated damages clause. • Contractor must provide bid security (10 % bond) and meet extensive SBE, RPP, apprenticeship, and payment‑monitoring compliance obligations.

Budget estimate

$300,000 – $600,000

Based on typical municipal hydrant alteration costs ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per unit (including excavation, pipe, backfill, and site restoration), the 60‑unit scope suggests a total contract value between $300,000 and $600,000. Additional costs may arise from traffic control, erosion control, and compliance reporting, but the core work falls within this band.
