Description

The NYSERDA Innovation for Affordable Building Electrification program (PON 6162) seeks proposals that demonstrate affordable, scalable technologies to improve energy efficiency, electrification, or load management in existing New York residential, multifamily, and small‑/medium‑size commercial buildings. Projects must be at Technology Readiness Level 4 or higher, include a New York demonstration site that pays into the electric Systems Benefit Charge, and provide a clear commercialization pathway. Funding is milestone‑based, up to $1 M per award (≈ $600 k NYSERDA contribution) with a minimum 40 % cost‑share from the proposer. Proposals are due July 23 2026 and contracts run up to 36 months. • Eligible focus areas: Energy‑Efficiency (cost‑reduced envelope retrofits), Electrification (clean heating/cooling heat‑pump systems, low‑GWP refrigerants), Load Management (smart‑grid controls, storage, demand‑response). • Required deliverables: fully completed Proposal Form, Statement of Work (Excel), Budget Form, TRL/CRL Calculator, letters of support/host‑site commitment, and compliance with EO 16 sanctions certification. • Funding and payment: milestone‑based payments, final 10‑20 % retained until project completion; royalty recoupment (1 % of sales) applies only if NYSERDA development funding exceeds $100 k. • Project timeline: demonstration must begin ≤ 24 months after award; total project ≤ 36 months; annual metrics reports due Jan 31 each year.

Budget estimate

$300,000 – $600,000

The program caps each award at $1 M total project cost, with NYSERDA providing roughly $600 k (60 %) and the proposer covering at least $400 k (40 %). Assuming the proposer receives the full NYSERDA portion, expected revenue ranges from $300 k (if only development funding is awarded) up to $600 k (full NYSERDA contribution). Additional private or partner funding may increase total earnings, but the core contract budget is expected between $300 k and $600 k.
