Description
The Southwest Independent School District is seeking a qualified vendor to provide physical therapy services to students with physical disabilities. The selected vendor will be required to plan and provide direct therapy to students, assess students and plan therapeutic intervention, and participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee. The vendor must have a degree in physical therapy, be licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of Texas, and have at least one year of experience as a physical therapist.
Key responsibilities include:
• Assessing students with physical disabilities and determining eligibility for services
• Planning and providing direct and consultative services consistent with physical therapy goals contained in students' Individual Education Plans (IEP)
• Evaluating student progress and determining readiness for termination of physical therapy services
• Participating in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretations of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with physical disabilities
• Providing school personnel with appropriate in-service education relating to the implementation of physical therapy programs, use of proper body mechanics, handling and positioning of students, or other pertinent topics
• Maintaining contact with the student's family to coordinate goals, teach and review home programs, and assist with problem-solving
• Consulting with educational staff regarding the use of specialized equipment and materials
• Consulting with district and outside agencies, including private therapists and other medical staff, regarding the physical and medical needs of students
• Establishing control and administering discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
• Developing and coordinating a continuing evaluation of the physical therapy program and making changes based on the findings
• Compiling, maintaining, and filing all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents, and maintaining confidentiality
• Complying with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy
• Complying with all district and assigned campus routines and regulations
• Effectively communicating with colleagues, students, and parents
• Participating in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignments
• Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality at work
• Maintaining emotional control under stress
• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and heavy lifting of 40+ lbs.
• May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchairs or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
• Traveling daily district-wide
