Professional Architectural/Engineering Consultant Services for Seattle Animal Shelter Design

The City of Seattle is seeking a professional architectural/engineering consultant team to provide programming and predesign services for a new approximately 50,000 square foot Seattle Animal Shelter. The new facility will replace the existing Interbay shelter and will be designed to meet current and projected needs, reflect best practices in shelter medicine and animal welfare, improve safety and circulation, expand veterinary and community outreach services, and create a welcoming environment for the public, staff, volunteers, and foster families. The consultant team will be responsible for partnering with the City's animal care consultant to verify and refine program requirements, assessing site and operational considerations, preparing predesign documentation, and supporting public engagement and stakeholder outreach. The scope of work includes developing a detailed consultant team organizational chart, describing the team's ability to staff the project, discussing key team members' experience presenting to design review bodies, and describing the team's demonstrated practice of sustainable and resilient design. Some key points to note are: • The project requires a minimum of one USGBC-accredited team member. • The lead team members for the prime consultant and subconsultants must work in an office within 50 miles of downtown Seattle. • The City has a Sustainable Buildings Policy that requires the project to achieve a LEED Gold rating. • The project will include a 1% for Arts element. • The Seattle Design Commission will review the design of the new animal shelter. • The City is considering co-location of the Seattle Police Department's Canine Unit on the site.
