Illinois RFPs are published through BidBuy, the state's eProcurement system, alongside the Illinois Procurement Bulletins and the separate portals run by Chicago, Cook County, the state universities and hundreds of municipalities. This guide covers each source, what it does and does not carry, and how to watch all of them without checking each one by hand.
Illinois is the sixth-largest state by population and home to Chicago, the country's third-largest city. Its economy is midwestern but not landlocked — an expansive network of canals, the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan — and that mix of freight, manufacturing, agriculture and urban services generates a steady stream of public contracting at every level of government.
Where Are Illinois RFPs Posted?

What Is the Difference Between BidBuy and the Illinois Procurement Gateway?
This catches out more Illinois newcomers than anything else, and the two are not alternatives — they are consecutive steps. The Illinois Procurement Gateway is where you register as a vendor and complete the state's disclosure requirements. Completing IPG registration is what creates your BidBuy account. What Do You Need Before You Can Bid in Illinois?
- Register through the Illinois Procurement Gateway and complete the disclosure requirements. This creates your BidBuy account, so it is the true first step.
- Confirm your BidBuy account works and your commodity categories reflect what you actually sell, so notifications match.
- Register separately with Chicago and Cook County if the metro is your market. Between them they are among the largest public buyers in the country, and neither touches the state system.
- Research the Comptroller database for your category before you price a live bid. It is the cheapest competitive intelligence available in Illinois.
How Do You Search for Illinois RFPs?
Define your area of interest first. Government solicitations cover an enormous range, and a broad search returns noise rather than opportunities. Then vary the vocabulary: if you are chasing construction work in Illinois, search construction, building and repairs, renovation and refurbishment separately, because agencies use all four and none of them return the same results.
Favorite the near-misses as you go.
